How I work
I work in a deliberate manner to give my students the space to think about their muscles, to attend to how they are moving, and to link their breath with movement. For me, embodiment leads to greater self-awareness, and the special atmosphere that comes about when a group of people focus like this promotes a unique sense of connection.
I keep my classes small so that I can give individual support, and I usually start group classes at complete beginner level, with the idea that the cohort progresses together to an intermediate standard.
I enjoy researching, planning and delivering classes, regularly reflecting on my training and the work of Joseph Pilates, and looking to future trends. I have a particular interest in working with people who are hypermobile and appear on the approved list of practitioners of the Ehlers-Danlos Society. I also very much enjoy working with those aged 50+, although I can work with people of any age. I love working one to one. For me, it’s all about connection.

“Since first meeting Alison three years ago to discuss a Pilates plan considering a medical condition, I have never felt anything but safe in her hands. Starting from scratch she has been clear and patient in her teaching and I am hugely grateful. More recently and taking a new knee into consideration, she has encouraged me to work through the recovery process, improving my flexibility, balance, mobility and confidence. Her care and professionalism (and at times sense of humour) are wonderful. Thank you Alison.”
